Philadelphia became a canvas for love as Alex and Jay celebrated their union in an Italian-inspired extravaganza. Their big day, set against the majestic backdrop of the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, and the enchanting allure of Cescaphe’s Franklin’s View in Franklin Square, was a celebration of love and heritage.
Their story, a tale of love and serendipity, began amidst the rhythms of Kendrick Lamar’s concert in the fall of 2018. Alex, an architectural designer, and Jay, a marketing adviser, embarked on their first date—a leisurely stroll through the Italian Market followed by a cozy dinner at Villa di Roma. It was a beginning that blossomed into countless dates and Sunday suppers, culminating in a proposal two and a half years later.
The couple aptly named their wedding reception “A Sicilian Affair,” paying homage to Alex’s Sicilian roots in every detail. Vine & Oak really brought Alex and Jay’s vision to life throughout every detail of the day. From the Moor’s-head vases, inspired by HBO’s White Lotus and sourced from Sicily by the bride’s middle sister, to the blue-and-white mosaic seating chart, every element exuded the charm of Sicilian folklore.
The seating chart, adorned with shelves of individually packaged pastas, guided guests to their tables with whimsical flair. From gnocchi to mezzi rigatoni, each bag of pasta represented a cherished memory and a shared meal. A playful nod to tradition, the wall bore the words of Sophia Loren: “Everything you see, I owe to spaghetti,” a tribute to the parents’ table named after the beloved pasta.
Guests gathered at circular tables adorned with Vine & Oak’s citrusy hued floral arrangements which perfectly complemented the culinary journey that showcased the flavors of Italy. From aged New York sirloin with ricotta salata to Chilean sea bass and a succulent double-cut pork chop, each dish was a symphony of flavors, accompanied by drinks named after the couple’s cherished cocker spaniels, Frankie and Leo.
As the evening unfolded, an ice sculpture captured the whimsy of the moment—a testament to the couple’s love for their furry companions, who shared a single strand of pasta in frozen delight.
In the magical embrace of Franklin’s View, amidst laughter and love, Alex and Jay embarked on a new chapter of their lives—a journey illuminated by the warmth of Sicilian tradition and the timeless beauty of love.
