My first thought on looking over the photos from Alyssa and Dave’s sunny April wedding was that this couple had brought major Old Hollywood glamour to Philadelphia’s Old City! The vintage elegance of Alyssa’s Anna Campbell gown from Lovely Bride was augmented by the partially swept-back loose waves she wore in her red hair, (courtesy of Ariel Katrina). In their first look and couple portraits, Alyssa was as radiant as a starlet and Dave beamed like a leading man.
But, in the history of weddings on film, I don’t think anyone’s ever captured or imagined, a day like Alyssa and Dave’s. Alyssa and Dave were so incredibly thoughtful about creating a ceremony and celebration that would reflect not only their love for each other but also their love for their family and friends. All weddings are really an ensemble production, but it was moving to witness the way Alyssa and Dave took every opportunity to celebrate the many people who came together to make this special day happen.
Choosing the airy, light-drenched Power Plant Productions for a venue let all the sunshine on this glowing couple and their loved ones. Modern, playful flower arrangements by Devon & Pinkett brought a joyful vitality to the all-white space, and I am still thinking about the transformative power of an unexpected pop of deep purple!
The ceremony began with Dave and Alyssa processing in from opposite sides of the room and meeting in front of a spare metallic industrial arch with great sprays of flowers climbing up the sides. They were joined by their mothers, who each spoke during the ceremony. Rather than having one officiant, Dave and Alyssa took advantage of the Pennsylvania Quaker tradition of self-marrying and asked every member of their bridal party to speak about love.
Alyssa and Dave wowed the room with a first dance they had choreographed and been practicing for a year. (FYI, they nailed it–even the lift & spin!) Later, the couple toasted each of their guests—a really warm and personal way to bring the room together! Ice Cream from Philly favorite Little Baby’s capped off a night of sweetness for Alyssa and Dave and their loved ones.
Congratulations Alyssa & Dave! I was so happy to have a part in your happily ever after!
